Home-Based Business/In-Home Dependent/Childcare/Nanny Policy

We will only post positions based at commercial businesses. Home-based business, in-home dependent/childcare or nanny positions will not be posted. This is to ensure that Handshake provides students with safe and worthwhile work experience.

This policy applies to all opportunities, including full-time, internship and part-time positions.

Third-Party Staffing Firm Policy

Career Services defines third-party staffing as any organization recruiting on behalf of, or providing any recruitment services to, another organization. If you or your company falls into this category, please see the details below on our policy regarding third-party staffing firms.

Please create an employer profile on Handshake and request access to Saint Louis University. After requesting access, a Career Services staff member will review and respond to the employer profile in Handshake.

Submitting a request for access to Saint Louis University in Handshake does not guarantee access. If approved, employers must abide by the following requirements:

  • All positions posted must be internal to the third-party staffing firm or must clearly disclose the client for which the third-party staffing firm is recruiting
  • Review and abide by the NACE Principles for Third-Party Recruiters

If any member of an approved third-party staffing firm fails to uphold the standards discussed above, access to Handshake and Saint Louis University students will be permanently terminated for the entire organization.

Procedural Violation Policy

The Career Services office reserves the right to ban any organization from campus for violating any guidelines related to office policies and procedures.

Employer usage of Handshake is limited to employment/recruiting-related purposes only. Registered employers must comply with all federal, state, and local laws and established affirmative action/equal employment opportunity regulations and guidelines.

Career Services reserves the right for any or no reason to deny access to any employer and also reserves the right to refuse and/or edit job postings as deemed warranted by the University in the University's sole and absolute discretion.

Company Email Domain Policy

Due to the prevalence of fraudulent employers using generic email addresses, Career Services requires all employers in Handshake to use an email domain specific to their company. 

Employers using Gmail, Outlook, iCloud, Hotmail, Yahoo, AOL, MSN, and other generic email address domains for their company will be declined connection with Saint Louis University.

Competing Services Policy

All organizations offering services already provided by Career Services will be declined a connection with Saint Louis University in Handshake. 

This includes but is not limited to professional resume writing, professional resume review, career counseling and job listings. 

All third-party recruiters and staffing agencies should review our Third-Party Staffing Firm Policy.

Fee-based Opportunities Policy

No organizations or employment opportunities that require applicants to pay any fee will be approved in Handshake. This policy does not apply to colleges and universities recruiting for academic programs.

Unpaid Internship Policy

Internship compensation must meet the U.S. Department of Labor standards. The student and their academic program must agree upon all internships for academic credit.

Employment and Internship Offer Deadline Policy

All employers participating in on-campus recruitment must give students two full weeks to accept or decline the offer. All bonuses or other incentives should remain in full effect for the entire two-week offer period. The two-week offer period will begin when a written offer is extended to the student.

Employer Tabling Policy

Employers can schedule a free tabling session in one of six locations on campus. Table availability is pre-set each semester based on the building and is reserved for employers on a first-come-first-served basis. Employers cannot schedule more than one table per building per semester.

All tabling-session cancellations must be communicated at least 24 business hours before the schedule table. If a tabling session is canceled with less than 24 business hours of notice or the employer no-shows to the reserved tabling session, the employer will be given a warning via email and reminded of the policy, but allowed to keep their remaining tabling reservations. If there is a second offense, all future tabling sessions for the semester will be canceled, and the employer will be banned from tabling for the following semester. Special consideration will be made for extenuating circumstances.
